Maltese Sapper (1813-1817), Drawing by Major A.E. ChesneyMaltese Military Artificer (1805-1813), Drawing by Major A.E. Chesney

Three companies were raised in 1806 for this new Corps, two intended for local service and one for service overseas. The Corps served with the Anglo-Sicilian Army in Alicate in Spain, Gibraltar and later in Italy. Officers were from the Royal Engineers and wore the Corps uniforms, while the men wore a uniform consisting of a blue cloth jacket with Ordnance buttons and black collar and cuffs, open blue cloth pantaloons and shako. The Corps was finally disbanded in 1817 after 11 years of service in many Mediterranean countries.
