SUMMARY Maltese Regiments of the British Army The Royal Malta Fencible Pensioners Company, 1854-1861.
Due to the shortage of troops in Malta during the Crimean War, in 1854 Sir William Reid, Governer of Malta rasied a unit of Pensioners for garrison duties usually performed by regular regiments. Service was for seven years. The uniform was a blue frock coat with red facings, blue trousers, forage cap, boots and black accouterments. Extract from a brief by Denis A. Darmanin. |
