The HRGM was formed in 1998 and is committed to the presentation of living history, focused on the Napoleonic period. Members research life and activities of this epoch and put their findings into practice, recreating daily life as realistically as possible. This may be the typical day of a soldier in a military garrison or that of the civilian population of all classes, presented as a tangible experience for spectators, an experience which brings to life written accounts of the period.

Members have formed representative military units of the  late 18th century, the Regimento di Malta, the Cacciatori Maltesi and the Militia all regiments of the Knights of St. John, as well as the Maltese Light Infantry, the first Maltese corps of the British Army which was set up by Capt. James Weir during the blockade of the French, and the 19th demi-brigade of the line, a French unit which was stationed in Malta during the blockade. The HRGM can also field a team of armed Maltese insurgents, as well as peasants, camp followers and other civilians.

Through the European Napoleonic Society (ENS), the HRGM is in close contact with other units re-enacting the Napoleonic period. This ensures a permanent exchange of experience and information. Extensive research, meticulous attention to detail and sound training by experienced re-enactors guarantee a result worthy of our members’ dedication.
